This region is very
popular with anglers as there are many well stocked
lakes and rivers. It is also very popular for
cyclists and walkers. |
| Bourganeuf has a
market every Wednesday with many stalls selling
locally grown produce from fruit/vegetable, hand
made cheeses/pâtés to hand carved clogs. The grand
street fair is held twice a year (May and August)
and incorporates a walk for anybody to sign up to.
You can choose to walk 5km,10km,15km or 25km.
Throughout the day there is music and dancing and
stalls where you can buy regional foods that are
cooked in front of you. July 14th is Bastille Day.
The celebrations for this holiday continue
throughout the day and into the early hours! The
finale being a spectacular free firework display
held around the Tour Zizim. |

Le Lac de Vassivière. Lake Vassivière is
one of the largest in France, spreading over 1000
hectares, with a perimeter of 45 kilometres and a
maximum depth of 35 metres. Situated amongst the
pine forests, hills and woody countryside,
Vassivière is a wonderful place to fish. The French
in fact call the lake and the surrounding area “the
Canada of France”. Throughout the year fisherman can
catch pike, perch, carp and many other species from
either the lakes banks or from a boat. |

Le parc D’ARBRE EN ARBRE. Adventure theme
park in Arbre, close to Lake Vassivière with over 90
activities to cater for all ages - infants, juniors
and adults. |

La Tapisserie d’Aubusson. The
Aubusson tapestry, inscribed in UNESCO World
Heritage. Aubusson tapestry depicts the
history of mankind through 5 centuries and
has made this city the capital of low-warp
tapestry. A whole chain of trades is
represented - spinner, dyer, weaver,
restaurateur... 15 workshops, galleries and
factories producing tapestries, carpets and
other items. In the morning, take a guided
tour of a manufacturer of tapestries, a
family business which has managed to
modernise and adapt to changing tapestry.
Discovery of techniques - colourist, master
dyers and weavers. Then take a stroll
through the city of Aubusson with its smart
shops and enjoy a 3-course meal from
regional cuisine with wine and coffee
included.
In the afternoon, take a guided tour of the
County Museum of tapestry. Extremely lively
place, it has both the intimacy and
familiarity of the tapestry and it is
monumental. All ages from the early 17th
century are represented by their most
distinctive creations. The museum has a cosy
atmosphere with music but is also
historical, sociological, technical, precise
and educational. |

Les Loups de Chabrieres. Wolf Sanctuary
in Chabrieres forest. The park provides the best
vantage point from which to observe one of the most
fascinating of animals - the wolf. In a habitat that
is as authentic as possible with large area
enclosures in the heart of the forest Chabrières
forest. |
